Spread the WORDS.
Spread the LOVE.

Lekkco Belgian Dark Chocolate Spread and the International Dyslexia Association have partnered together to bring awareness and support to families, educators, and those looking for help with dyslexia, a learning disability that affects 15%-20% of AmericansMost children (and adults) go undiagnosed for far too long, and the effects have immeasurable consequences.

With a daughter, Helena, who was diagnosed in third grade with severe dyslexia, Lekkco co-founders Jennifer and Bram, understand the difficult journey both children and parents find themselves before and after diagnosis. It's why in partnership with the International Dyslexia Association, Lekkco has dedicated efforts throughout October, Dyslexia Awareness Month, to accomplish:

Spread the Words of knowledge, encouragement, inspiration, and support, to those struggling with any form of dyslexia and asking our community of friends and family to pass it on.

Spread the Love  by raising critical funds for the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) to further progress the awareness, expand the resources, and continue the development of tools that support children, families and educators, through Lekkco's Chocolate4Charity program, where proceeds go directly to the IDA and their mission.

What Is Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability. Dyslexia refers to a cluster of symptoms, which result in people having difficulties with specific language skills, particularly reading. Students with dyslexia usually experience difficulties with other language skills such as spelling, writing, and pronouncing words.

As many as 15–20% of the population as a whole (for a reference, that's 33 MILLION Americans in the United States today), have some of the symptoms of dyslexia, including slow or inaccurate reading, poor spelling, poor writing, or mixing up similar words. Not all of these will qualify for special education, but these individuals are likely to struggle with many aspects of academic learning and will likely to benefit from systematic, explicit, instruction in reading, writing, and language.

Dyslexia occurs in people of all backgrounds and intellectual levels. People with dyslexia can be very bright. They are often capable or even gifted in areas such as art, computer science, design, drama, electronics, math, mechanics, music, physics, sales, and sports. In addition, dyslexia runs in families; parents with dyslexia are very likely to have children with dyslexia. For some people, dyslexia is identified early in their lives, but for others, their dyslexia goes unidentified until they get older.

The Social Impacts of Dyslexia

Years of self-doubt, frustration, feeling inferior, can cause poor self image and erode a person’s self-esteem, making them less able to tolerate the challenges of school, work, or social interactions, leading more easily toward depression. Being misdiagnosed, diagnosed after years and years of struggling, or not being given the proper resources or support, can have the most insurmountable consequences. Together, we can do better.
